1.1 Candidates will be able to design meaningful activities and learning experiences that incorporate the guiding principles of Universal Design for Learning and appropriate technology tools and resources.
Seesaw Hyperdoc/ Video Introduction
I used a variety of technology tools throughout my internship to enhance the learning at my school. I created a video explaining what Seesaw was and sent the video to my coworkers. I sent this video to see who would be interested in joining my sessions to learn more about Seesaw. I showed my coworkers how to add create an activity by adding templates, videos, chart. I also showed them how to add an activity with voice directions. I created a hyperdoc using google docs to guide my online and in person sessions.
7.1 Candidates will be able to apply models of technology in school (such as SAMR, TPACK, and/or TIM) to incorporate technology tools to improve teaching and learning.
Pre-Survey
During spring of 2018, I sent out an email to my coworkers to see who would be interested in participating in my internship. I attached a google form link to the email in order to collect the data. The email stated... "Next fall, I will have the opportunity to implement a new technology innovation at our school. However, I will need help and support from the teachers to make sure that implementation occurs. I also need teachers to be a part of the whole process which involves problem identification, decision making and implementation of the innovation. If you are willing to consider change in your teaching procedures and would like to try something new and exciting in your classroom, please complete the survey below to give me an insight on what I can do to support you while planning over the summer. Do not worry, you will not be doing this alone. I will be planning professional development opportunities and meeting times to assist you in learning the skills that will be needed to implement this technology tool." Integrating Seesaw into teaching and learning will go along with the Modification level of the SAMR Model. Students will be able to use audio and video to capture pictures of their work and use their voice to explain it. Teachers will use QR codes to have students join the class and complete assignments on Seesaw. A writing and text tool can also be used by students to show their work. Teachers will be able to use this tool to enhance instruction by assigning work and allowing collaboration between students and parents. It can be used for students to practice their skills learned in reading, writing and math. Teachers can use this data to personalize learning based on student needs. The TPACK Model will also be supported using Seesaw. Students have one-to-one devices and will be able to access technology to use Seesaw. The content will align with the curriculum and be used to assess those standards. I will use the pedagogical part of TPACK to understand how to teach adult learners at my school. My recent classes at Loyola has given me skills on how to keep adults engaged in presentations and understanding the importance of making use of their time by allowing them to explore the tool.
14.2 Candidates will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead technology initiatives at the school or district level.
Internship Proposal
After researching a technology tool during the summer of 2018, I decided to teach my coworkers about a technology tool called Seesaw. First, I created a proposal and then I presented the proposal to my school principal. A few weeks later, I was able to start leading in person and online sessions about how to use Seesaw.
15.1 Candidates will be able to apply models of professional learning to begin the process of real change in a school.
Seesaw Presentation
The innovative tool that I would like to introduce to my school is called Seesaw. It is an online application that allows students to connect through a device. “Seesaw is used by millions of students in more than half of the schools in the U.S. and in over 150 countries around the world.” (web.seesaw.me) This innovation allows students to take ownership of their own learning. It also gives them the skills that are needed to self-reflect on their progress. This tool encourages communication and involvement with family and friends. Which allows parents to show support and be aware of what their child is working on in class. This tool can be used as an online portfolio for students to access in the classroom and at home. I evaluated my school using Ely's 8 Conditions and I realized that the hardest thing for teachers at my school would be being able to meet at a time that is convenient for everyone.
16.2 Candidates will be able to determine and implement the best approaches to improving their technology integration efforts through a continual process of self-evaluation and reflection.
Internship Reflections
I chose to have my coworkers complete a self reflection at the end of each session using google forms to reflect on their learning. The google form reflections helped me figure out where everyone was with learning this new tool. I used the feedback as guidance when planning for the next session. My goal was to make the sessions time effective and purposeful. After reading the google form reflections, I would type my own reflections on how I felt the sessions went by documenting things that went well and things that I would do differently next time.
