Key Concept 6.1 Candidates will be able to create a literature review of a specific topic related to educational technology.
Effects of Technology on Students
There were six articles identified and used in this literature review. All six articles found that technology has many positive effects on students. Technology gives students access to more information from a variety of resources. Considering that most students do have a device at home or in the classroom, technology makes learning more convenient for students. Housand and Housand identifies negative effects that technology has on students as well. Although technology allows students to have access to more resources, Housand and Housand identify what technology is lacking for our students. Now that more students are using technology to find their resources, it is important for teachers to teach students what technology will not teach them.
Key Concept 6.2 Candidates will be able to apply the results of research about educational technology to practice and correctly cite sources in APA style.
Action Research
In AD-662 I created an action research to examine the effective use of technology integration and how it can improve 4th and 5th grade writing skills. In the past two decades there has been a large increase in the amount of computers that are in school buildings. In 1995 there was one computer for every 9 students and 6 years later the ratio changed to 2:1. Since more computers are available in school, they are now being used a lot more in the classroom during instruction. There has been a rapid increase in the amount of computers that are being used in school and adults are starting to wonder if the computers are having a positive affect on students writing skills and the quality of their writing.
